SOUTH DAKOTA

No local registration ordinances or pre-state plates are known from any cities prior to the 1905 state law, which prohibited all local registration of motor vehicles.  The largest city, Sioux Falls (pop. 14,094 in 1910), passed an automobile speed ordinance on March 2, 1903, while the second-largest city, Aberdeen (10,753) followed with passage if its automobile ordinance, #217, on September 15, 1903, effective the next day.
